Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A wonderful pottery 'pretty lady' figure adorned with pale-orange slip. Clearly a fertility idol with ample hips suggestive of child-bearing, attenuated arms, perky breasts covered by the lengthy tassels of her headdress, and a slender neck. The head boasts a highly-stylized visage composed of recessed ovoid eyes with impressed pupils beneath slanted brows, a petite nose above an impressed mouth, and miniscule ears, all beneath an incised coiffure decorated with red pigment. Size: 1.3" W x 3.9" H (3.3 cm x 9.9 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
