Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A sweet handbuilt bichrome terracotta mother and child, both of the so-called "sheepface" form with characteristic elongated heads, banded headdresses, large earspools, protruding noses, and pointy ears. Both are decorated with added white facial features - detailing their headdresses, 'beaded' jewelry, and in the woman's case, her skirt. The mother lovingly places one arm around her child's shoulder as she sits with her legs folded, one tucked under her skirt presenting a universal human quality. Size: 7" H (17.8 cm)

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
