Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti covered in layers of lustrous blue-green glaze. The figure stands in mummiform, holds a pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest, and has a seed bag painted behind both shoulders. The serene countenance is defined by ovoid eyes with elongated canthi, a slender nose, tapered cheeks, and a smooth brow, all beneath a simple tripartite wig. When translated, the column of black-painted hieroglyphic text in front of the legs reads, "The Osiris, the lady of the house, chantress of Amun, Her-Meret." Size: 1.3" W x 4.4" H (3.3 cm x 11.2 cm); 4.9" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Minor abrasions and pitting holes on legs, body, and head, with fading to areas of glaze pigment and hieroglyphic text, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and great traces of original pigmentation throughout. Hieroglyphic text is still legible.
