**Originally Listed At $250**

Ancient Seas, North America / Africa, Cambrian to Permian, ca. 521 to 251.9 million years ago. A pair of fossilized trilobites, excavated to show off the interesting bodies. The smaller specimen is professionally prepared, and nicely contrasts with the lighter surrounding stone, and the other is almost fully excavated and removed from the stone matrix. Trilobites are one of the earliest known groups of arthropods, first appearing in the Atdabanian stage of the Early Cambrian period (521 million years ago). The exact timing of their extinction varied among different species, but as a group, trilobites disappeared during the Permian-Triassic extinction event, one of the largest mass extinctions in Earth's history. Before that, trilobites were among the most successful of all early animals, roaming the oceans for over 270 million years! Size of larger trilobite: 3" L x 2" W x 1.2" H (7.6 cm x 5.1 cm x 3 cm)
