Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period or later, ca. 1000 to 332 BCE. A trio of faience amulets in the form of two hands, and a lotus blossom. The hands are long fingered, with the fingers stretched out straight and small perforations for suspension on the wrists. Many amulets in ancient Egypt depict disembodied limbs, hands, feet, etc., and may have been made to pray for health. The hand-shaped amulets in particular are often found gracing necklaces and bracelets. The lotus flower, made to depict the white lotus that grew in marshes near the Nile, was as symbol of strength and power; remains of the flower have been found in the tomb of Ramesses II, for example. This faience lotus shows the flower in full bloom, with a small perforation for suspension on the underside of the flower. Size of largest (one of the hands): 0.75" H (1.9 cm)
