Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Sacatepequez, Sumpango, Preclassic Maya Period, Maya, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A wonderful collection of three hand-built and highly-burnished pottery vessels. First is a small olla with a flat base, globular body, and a pair of suspension loops flanking a flared rim. Second is a wide bowl with a planar base, rounded walls, a shallow interior cavity, and a slightly-flared rim. Third is a deep bowl with a flat base, tall walls, a petite corseted rim, and spiralized designs on the exterior. Each vessel is decorated with brick-red painted details atop cream-hued grounds, giving them a beautiful bichrome appearance. Size of largest (shallow bowl): 8.625" W x 2.875" H (21.9 cm x 7.3 cm).

  • Condition: Deepest bowl has lengthy fissure on one side and small loss to rim. All vessels have age-commensurate surface wear, small nicks to bases and rims, with some fading and discoloration to pigmentation, otherwise very good. Light earthen and mineral deposits as well as nice root marks throughout. Writing beneath one vessel denotes location of find.
