Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful set of three hand-built terracotta female figures, each visage displaying characteristic "sheepface" features such as conical noses, pointed ears with circular earspools, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, thin mouths, and tall foreheads with stylized headbands. Each figure also has attenuated limbs, perky breasts, and thick necks, two of which exhibit slightly distended abdomens. The shortest figure is colored in a red slip with white-painted embellishments; the tallest figure is colored completely in black; and the third figure shows evidence of red, white, and black colors atop a light-brown buffware surface. Each example is a wonderful demonstration of ancient shaft-tomb artistry! Size of largest (black): 5.75" H (14.6 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
