**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A group of three bronze rings, all with thick bands and large faces. All are wearable. Size of largest: 1" L x 1.2" W (2.5 cm x 3 cm)

Two have glass settings and the third has a flat, square face. One has a clear/blue glass oval inset in its face (US 5); another has a round piece of purple glass inset into a decorated, incised setting (US 5.75); the third is silvered bronze and has a flat, square face with no apparent motif or inset (US 6.75). The fourth part of this collection is a bronze attachment ring with incised circle designs around its body.

Provenance: Ex-private Collection of James Farmer, Maryland, collected from major galleries and auction houses between 1995 and 2005

  • Condition: All have patina and bands are slightly bent out of perfectly round, but are still wearable. The blue glass has some losses. The purple glass has encrustation around it.
