Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Tumaco-La Tolita culture, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A seated votive female figure modeled from buff clay, shown with legs extended and arms extended, perhaps once cradling an object. Her facial features are sensitively rendered with almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose with ornaments, a chin labret, and she wears a smooth headdress fitted close to the head along with applied ear ornaments. Incised bands on the ankles and wrist. Such votive figures were created for ritual or funerary purposes, embodying spiritual symbolism and community identity. Size: 5" L x 4" W x 6.25" H (12.7 cm x 10.2 cm x 15.9 cm)
