Eastern Europe, Turko-Slavic culture, ca. 12th to 14th century CE; Western Europe, Post-Medieval period, ca. 17th century CE. A wonderful pair of thimbles. First, the Turko-Slavic bronze thimble boasts a characteristic elegant silhouette resembling an Arab pointed dome or qubba on a corseted rim. Alternatively, the post-Medieval European thimble is constructed from 78% - over 18 karat - gold and presents a tubular form with flattened crown and a trio of twisted brass bands with possible remains of silvering near the base. Both display dozens of indentations throughout their exteriors. Size of larger (Turko-Slavic): 1" Diameter x 1.3" H (2.5 cm x 3.3 cm); gold quality: 78% (equivalent to over 18 karats); weight of gold thimble only: 4.2 grams

Provenance: ex-private Boulder, Colorado collection, acquired before 2010
