Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of antique Tibetan sutra pages, framed under glass - sutras are revered religious text that contains teachings, principles, or instructions. The word "sutra" comes from the Sanskrit word for "thread" or "string," symbolizing how these texts stitch together wisdom or ideas. Each page is hand-inscribed with calligraphy in black ink on paper, one with a red border. Although these pages originate from different texts, as reflected in their varying sizes and styles, both contain Buddhist scriptures, conveying profound philosophical and religious teachings. A rough computer translation suggests their connection to Buddhist thought. Sutra pages are crafted from paper made from plant root fibers, often sourced from the paper mulberry tree. Professionally framed in matching wooden frames, these pieces are ready to display. Size of page with red border: 15" L x 3.75" W (38.1 cm x 9.5 cm); frame: 19.75" L x 9" W (50.2 cm x 22.9 cm)
