Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A distinctive pair of Jalisco pottery figures depicting standing nude female forms rendered with the bold, hieratic style characteristic of West Mexican shaft tomb sculpture. Their elongated heads, prominent noses, and compact bodies reflect the region's sculptural conventions, with abbreviated arms and strong legs giving the figures a stable, grounded stance. Such figures were likely placed within burial chambers as part of tomb offerings, where they served as symbolic attendants or representations of individuals connected to the deceased.   • Condition: Largest has been repaired with restoration and repainting over some break lines, but chipping and losses along other visible break lines. Both have expected surface wear as shown. Otherwise, more petite is intact and both have good remaining pigments and scattered earthen deposits.
