Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque, ca. 300 BCE to 400 CE. A pair of pottery figurines. The moldmade standing figure, possibly representing a warrior priest, is adorned with a headdress and chest ornament, fashioned as a whistle with a vent hole and mouthpiece, and TL tested to confirm authenticity. The second, a seated figure with a tall conical cap and defined facial features, is depicted with thick and short limbs - possibly indicating a dwarf. Together, they reflect the ritual and social roles of the Jamacoaque culture, renowned for its elaborate ceramic artistry and depictions of shamans, priests, and community leaders engaged in ceremonial life.

The moldmade figure has been tested by Kotalla Laboratory (Labor Kotalla) using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A copy of the report will accompany the item upon purchase.
