Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine pair of shallow hemispherical bowls, each hand-built with thick walls. The exteriors are beautifully decorated with geometric motifs rendered in rich brown-black hues over a creamy beige ground, showcasing motifs of crosshatching, undulating bands, and concentric stepped patterns radiating outward. Boasting a high burnish, both vessels display a pale grey slip on their interiors, polished to a soft sheen from use and age. Size of largest: 9.75" Diameter x 2.25" H (24.8 cm x 5.7 cm)

  • Condition: Some rubbing and fading to painted motifs, but overall excellent. Some abrasions to the surface of larger bowl on the basin. Scattered manganese deposits across the surfaces.
