Description:

North America, Western United States, Montana, Fort Union Formation, Paleocene era, ca. 66 to 58 million years ago. Two fossilized gingko leaves in separate stone matrices, likely from the prehistoric and now extinct Ginkgo cranei, showcasing well-preserved blade striations that contrast against the surrounding stone. Once widespread across the globe, the Ginkgo genus now survives only through Ginkgo biloba, a species that has become an urban park essential, prized for its distinctive fan-shaped leaves and medicinal uses. This ancient fossil offers a glimpse into the deep evolutionary history of a tree that endures to this day. Size of largest: 5" L x 2.5" W (12.7 cm x 6.4 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
