Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pair of cast-bronze prick spurs worn by Roman soldiers. Each spur features a semicircular body, petite button-shaped terminals meant for holding straps, and a tapered prick spike on the verso. The buttons on the spur with the thicker spike are each inlaid with an inlay of opaque blue glass that would have stood out nicely against the gleaming bronze. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 1.5" L x 2.2" W (3.8 cm x 5.6 cm)

Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection, acquired in the 1960's
