United States, WWII era, ca, mid-20th century CE. A U.S. Navy officer's service jacket belonging to Rear Admiral George Henry Browne, featuring mounted ribbon bars and a brass Submarine Warfare (dolphins) insignia above the left breast pocket. The interior pocket bears the name "Browne G H," linking the coat to the decorated World War II submariner. Rear Admiral George Henry Browne (1911-1964) was a United States Navy officer and 1934 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. During World War II, he commanded the submarines USS S-18 and USS Snook, leading several successful Pacific war patrols. For his valor in combat, including the sinking of enemy vessels in the South China Sea, he received the Navy Cross, one of the United States' highest military decorations for heroism in combat.   • Condition: Good vintage condition, showing light wear consistent with age and service use. Two small moth holes to the collar lapels. A few small areas of rubbing to the metallic cuff embroidery. Rubbing to dolphin pin. All original brass Navy buttons are intact and secure, as are the mounted ribbon bars. The interior lining shows slight discoloration on arm pits from use, and the inside pocket retains a clear "G.H. Browne" name label. Overall, the garment is well-preserved and complete, exhibiting the wear of a WWII service jacket.
