Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, ca. 200 BCE - 200 CE. This is a very unusual acrobat-like figure created by the Colima culture. Most extant examples feature the figure arching in a backbend position. Here we have the opposite, a "spiderman" like position on all fours. It boasts a substantial scale and nice burnishing. Given his position and closed eyes, he may represent a shaman undergoing a transformation. In addition the figure has perforations for ear ornaments, again indicating that he represents an individual of status. 8" x 6.5" x 5.5"
