Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A bronze statuette, cast, in the form of a small, male, nude human who holds a giant triangular piece up to his mouth (perhaps food, musical instrument, even measuring device, or sorts). If this was a modern statue, I'd guess it was a slice of pizza; here it is perhaps a grape leaf or large bunch of grapes. The meaning of the statue is mysterious so any guesses are welcome! Size: 1.75" W x 2.05" H (4.4 cm x 5.2 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Dr. Peter Arnovick Collection, Los Altos, CA
