Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Beringian / Old Bering Sea Culture, Punuk & Thule to Yupik / Inuit culture, ca. 200 BCE to 1800s CE. A collection of 30 teeth from various marine mammals, including cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises) and pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, walruses). In some Native Alaskan cultures, animal teeth were used as a form of currency. These specimens exhibit attractive surface patina and wear from long-term exposure to the elements. Reportedly collected by Marilyn Carter, author of "Legends, Tales & Totems of Alaska." Size of largest tooth: 2" L x 0.75" W (5.1 cm x 1.9 cm); case: 12" L x 8" W (30.5 cm x 20.3 cm)

This item contains marine mammal material (e.g., whale, dolphin, or seal teeth), which may be subject to restrictions under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as well as national wildlife protection laws.
