Description:

Pre-Columbian, Vera Cruz, Mexico, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A Sonriente (smiling figure) head in buff terracotta of a large characteristically triangular form, its grand headdress adorned with stylized sinuous motifs probably referencing serpents and angular ear ornaments. The happy visage boasts wonderful features including almond-shaped eyes, arched brows, smooth high cheekbones, and most characteristically, a wide smile revealing filed teeth. Quite a sunny disposition - Who wouldn't smile upon seeing this happy face! Wood block stand. Size: 5.5" W x 5.5" H (14 cm x 14 cm)
