Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Veracruz culture, ca. 6th to 8th century CE. An earthenware whistle in the form of a standing lord. He stands with his arms raised. His huge, rectangular headdress includes a mouthpiece for the whistle. His outfit is rich, with a glyph-like symbol on his skirt. His face is in a gesture that looks fierce, eyes wide open and teeth gritted, but the true meaning of his facial expression and clothing is lost to time. Size: 1.5" L x 3.5" W x 5.85" H (3.8 cm x 8.9 cm x 14.9 cm)

Provenance: Whisnant Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana, acquired over twenty years ago; ex-collection of Emmanul Kramer, acquired 1960s. Exhibited at University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Philadelphia, USA, from December 1966 to March 1967.
