Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. One of my favorite pieces, a gorgeous faience amulet, with a pale, seafoam green color, depicting a standing crocodile: the god Sobek. The god of the Nile, associated with pharaonic power, fertility, and military prowess, was often invoked for protection against the dangers of the Nile River. Drilled through underneath the snout for suspension. Size: 1.9" W x 0.65" H (4.8 cm x 1.7 cm)

Provenance: private Littleton, Colorado USA collection
