Mesopotamia. Ca. 2350 B.C. - 2150 B.C. Very large black serpentine cylinder seal having a carved rollout impression depicting an audience / introduction scene with grain goddess seated on a mountain, in front of her is an attendant goddess, followed by four identical bearded gods holding their hands out. Three maces between them. The second figure from the left, the attendant goddess, her feet point to the left as if walking toward the seated goddess, and her head faces the grain goddess, but her torso is turned the other way, perhaps trying to represent the attendant approaching the grain goddess but at the same time torquing around to introduce the other gods. Intact, exc. cond. An important and very impressive example. Size: 1-3/4"H. x 1-1/8"D.
