Central Asia, Western Tibet, Kampa Warrior tribe, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A beautiful and sizable shawl comprised of tightly-woven yak wool fibers in dyed hues of gold, cream, teal, salmon, burgundy, sapphire, grey, and ruby. The rectangular textile boasts three partial and twenty-one full rectangular sections alternating between yellow and white, each detailed with five small crosses in either pink or blue hues. Each cross-adorned section is separated by striated panels of blue, green, and red tones. Shawls like this were worn to protect against the cold weather of the harsh Tibetan climate. Mounted on a thick fabric backing. Size (textile): 24.5" W x 47.25" H (62.2 cm x 120 cm); size (fabric mount): 34.5" W x 57" H (87.6 cm x 144.8 cm).
