Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Vicus culture, ca. 200 BCE to 600 CE. A fascinating abstract ceramic figure, anthropomorphic, trapezoidal in form, with two flipper-like ears projecting from the upper sides and a large projecting nose. Concentric circles incised in the cheeks form eyes, and an upcurved incised line forms the mouth. Two tiny projections below the face form legs. Dark red lines painted on the surface may be meant to represent clothing and / or tattoos. Vicus ceramics were influenced by the Gallizano and Salinar cultures, north in Ecuador. Size: 3.05" W x 3.8" H (7.7 cm x 9.7 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
