Description:

**Originally listed for $400.

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Vicus culture, 200 BCE to 600 CE. A pretty example of an ancient hand sculpted piece of pottery. A thin strap handle and short spout top a bell-shaped body; the head of a duck- or goose-like bird forms the other end of the strap. Vicus ceramics were influenced by the Gallizano and Salinar cultures, north in Ecuador. Animal figures are particularly popular in their ceramics, and probably indicate a keen cultural awareness of the natural world. Size: 8.2" L x 5.5" W x 7.75" H (20.8 cm x 14 cm x 19.7 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Ann Landers (Esther Pauline "Eppie" Lederer) collection, Chicago, IL
