Description:

TZ (Vietnamese, 20th to 21st century). Rice workers in the field. Embroidered silk, n.d. Signed "TZ" at lower right. A quietly mesmerizing Vietnamese embroidered silk scene, capturing the rhythm of rural life with remarkable texture and restraint. Against a deep black ground, a lone figure in a conical hat leans into the work of the day, guiding a heavily laden cart as a water buffalo trudges forward, its body rendered in dense, velvety stitching. The embroidery transforms simple materials into atmosphere: straw becomes a storm of pale threads, the earth is built from layered lines that suggest furrows and wind, and the figures are modeled through subtle shifts in tone rather than bright color. The limited palette - sepia, cream, and charcoal - gives the image the feeling of a remembered moment, half-documentary and half-dream. Size of embroidery: 25.5" W x 18" H (64.8 cm x 45.7 cm); of frame: 30.25" W x 22.75" H (76.8 cm x 57.8 cm)

Signed "TZ" at the lower corner, this work stands as an evocative example of Vietnamese textile artistry, where labor, landscape, and daily endurance are elevated through the patience of the needle.
