Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. A delicate 95.09% silver pendant of bracteate form with an integral suspension bale attached along the uppermost periphery. The obverse is decorated with several filigree wires arranged in a central boss of circles as well as 4 sets of spiral-ended bands, each connected to the neighboring spiral via a thick stripe of silver. Pendants like this one were made to be worn around the neck as a type of amulet or sewn onto clothing and were frequently made of melted down coinage traded north from the Mediterranean.
