Description:

Central America, Guatemala, ca. early 20th century. A wonderful trio of hand-carved and hand-painted wooden dance masks, each one detailed with red and black pigments, nicely delineated facial features as well as mustaches and beards. The red and black hues indicate these may have been used during the Baile de los 24 Diablos (Dance of the 24 Devils). All have openwork eyes for the wearer to see through. The surfaces retain much of their original bright pigments. Beautiful examples of traditional masks for dances and parades. Size: 10" L x 5.375" W (25.4 cm x 13.7 cm)
