Egypt, Coptic, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. A double weave textile comprised of cotton fibers presenting a striking design that features two registers with abstract geometric motifs in black, green, beige and white on a red ground - surrounded by three narrower registers of striated bands surrounding a repeated wavy motif in hues of yellow ochre, white, green, orange, black, and umber. Beautiful coloration and an attractive design. Size: 12.5" L x 8" W (31.8 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: private Owen collection, New Jersey, USA, acquired in the 1990s from a US-based dealer; from the estate of a prominent Egyptologist active in the early part of the 20th century, brought to the US with the family in 1954
