Description:

Roman Empire, Egyptian, Near Eastern, and Central Asian regions, ca. 1000 BCE to 1000 CE. A striking strand of ancient beads composed of warm orange carnelian stones interspaced with small faience disc beads. The carnelian elements are hand-shaped into rounded and barrel-like forms, polished to a soft luster, and arranged to graduate in size from smaller beads near the clasp to larger, more prominent pieces at the center. Each carnelian bead is divided by a sequence of three tiny faience discs, creating an elegant and textural contrast of color and material. These ancient beads have been restrung in modern times on a strong, secure wire with a functional hook clasp, making them ready to wear while preserving their historic character. Size: 24.5" L (62.2 cm); largest bead: 0.7" L x 0.6" W (1.8 cm x 1.5 cm)
