Description:

Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 2130 to 332 BCE. A collection of ancient faience and stone beads strung in modern times as a wearable collar style necklace. The gold washed copper beads are modern additions inspired by the gold beads from known examples of Middle Kingdom collars. The beads are arranged and threaded together into a multi-tiered rows as a "broad collar" which is an iconic style that can be found in Egyptian friezes and numerous tombs. The stringing is done with modern cotton thread and a brass hook clasp completes the piece. This is an extraordinary and wearable piece of ancient jewelry! Size of inner strand: 15.2" L (38.6 cm); collar width: 1.5" W (3.8 cm); red beads: 0.6" L x 0.12" W (1.5 cm x 0.3 cm)
