Description:

**Originally Listed At $200**

West Africa, Burkina Faso / Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire) / Ghana, Senufo or neighboring cultures, ca. 19th to early 20th. A striking brass anklet of boat-like form, designed as both adornment and audible rattle. The hollow body features a slitted groove along the outer edge, within which several small pellets roll freely, producing a resonant sound when moved. One terminal is embellished with an upturned bird finial, complete with a small suspension loop that may have once supported additional ornamentation. The surface is richly decorated with incised and coiled wirework motifs, enhancing both its texture and visual impact. Functional as jewelry yet serving as a status symbol and possibly a form of currency, this anklet would have commanded attention with its sound and shimmer when worn in procession or dance. Size: 6.75" L x 0.5" W (17.1 cm x 1.3 cm)
