Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, probably Colima region, post Classic period, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A handbuilt earthenware olla presenting an elegant form that creates a curvaceous silhouette and adorned by an intricate polychrome decorative program comprised of striated and curvilinear bands, as well as a wide register of striped, nested triangles that alternate in color and direction. When viewed from above this register appears to depict a magnificent star pattern. All is delineated in a vibrant color palette of chocolate brown and russet red on a creamy beige ground. Size: 7.875" in diameter x 5.75" H (20 cm x 14.6 cm)
