Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, possibly Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery female figure standing and holding her breasts as well as presenting an expressive visage with wide-open ring-like eyes, a protruding nose, and an open mouth - suggesting that she is possibly whistling or singing. In addition, she is decorated with enormous ear spools and a headband over her centrally parted straight coiffure. Nice traces of vermilion red cinnabar further embellish the figure. Size: 4.875" H (12.4 cm); 5.625" H (14.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
