Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. A solid pottery hand-molded figure of a nude female with her arms outstretched, her head exaggeratedly large compared to the rest of her body. She has a large, paddle-like head and a red-pigmented, diagonal band around it; aside from two small perforations through her ears, this is her only decoration. Flat figures like this one are diagnostic of pottery from this time period on the southwestern Pacific coast of Mexico; they were mortuary offerings, found inside of burial mounds. Size: 2" W x 5.4" H (5.1 cm x 13.7 cm); 8.2" H (20.8 cm) on included custom stand.
