Description:

Ancient Greece, western colonies, ca. 600 to 400 BCE. A beautiful mold-made figurative pottery protome depicting a lovely goddess with sensitively modeled facial planes and delicately delineated eye beds, full lips, high cheekbones, noble nose, and rounded chin. Her coiffure softly frames this breathtaking visage, the wavy locks pulled back at the crown of her forehead with a diadem. Protomes are special appliques that were attached to larger pieces of pottery as decorative elements. An elegant example from Western Greece. Custom stand. Size: 3.25" W x 4.5" H (8.3 cm x 11.4 cm); 6.875" H (17.5 cm) on stand

Provenance: Ex-Peter Arnovock collection
