Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Inca, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. Quite a head turner, this striking necklace presents a fabulous design featuring six three-part panels, each one comprised of a cut shell cross form enclosed by two shell pieces that were precisely cut to fit that central motif. These are strung to four strands of numerous petite round stone beads interspersed with a pair of vertically set slender rectangular "frets" made of shell on each side. In addition to this impressive design, the warm caramel, beige, brown, and cream hues along with the natural patterns of the stones and shells used to create the beads are simply stunning. An unusual example of wearable art from the Inca culture. Size: 22" L (55.9 cm); largest 3-part rectangular panel measures 2.25" W x 1.5" H (5.7 cm x 3.8 cm)
