Lot 92F
Pre-Columbian, Vera Cruz, Mexico, ca. 5th to 7th century CE. A wonderful and very expressive pottery head depicting the "Old God" (Huehueteotl). The aged visage presents plenty of incised wrinkles, ovoid hollow eyes, nicely delineated earlobes, a jutting lower jaw, and an open, toothless mouth. The visage still shows remains of rich, red pigments. An intriguing piece. Custom lucite and metal stand. Size: head measures 3.5" L x 3" W (8.9 cm x 7.6 cm)
