Description:

East Asia, Japan, WWII era, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A katana featuring a black lacquered WWII era saya (scabbard) with cord wrap and a black tsuka (handle) fitted with ray skin panels and cherry blossom copper menuki. The other fittings are decorated with floral themes and made from copper and brass, including a cherry blossom tsuba (guard), and a fuchi and matching kashira in WWII style. The blade shows a deep sori (curve) toward the tang, with a ko-kissaki (small point), straight grain masame hada, and the hamon displays a sanbon-sugi pattern with a nioi line. The tang is mumei (unsigned), with a long kimono-shaped nakago and slanting suji-chigai file marks. Size in saya: 38.25" L x 2.5" W (97.2 cm x 6.4 cm); blade: 25" L x 1.25" W (63.5 cm x 3.2 cm)
