Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

United States, WWII era, ca. 1940s CE. A miniature cast iron practice bomb, the AN-MK-23, developed for low-altitude horizontal and dive-bombing training, allowing pilots to practice accuracy without the use of live ordnance. It was one of three closely related practice bombs, alongside the MK-5 and MK-43, each made of different materials to vary weight and ballistic behavior. The MK-23 was the most widely used of the group and was primarily intended for land targets rather than armored naval decks. Instead of an explosive charge, it housed an AN-MK-4 spotting signal - an elongated 10-gauge blank shotgun shell - that produced a visible flash and smoke plume upon impact to mark the strike point. This MK-23 played a crucial role in training Allied aircrews, combining realistic handling characteristics with a reusable, non-lethal design. Size: 8.25" L x 2" W (21 cm x 5.1 cm)
