Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Xalitla culture, ca. 1200 to 900 BCE. A hand-built pottery standing cargadora (female loader or carrier) standing atop delineated legs with deep grooves surrounding the knees. The nude upper body presents perky breasts and an impressed navel, broad shoulder, and sinuous arms held against the temples. The head boasts wide ovoid eyes, a slender nose, plump lips, and spool-adorned ears, all beneath a bifurcated tump line tied around the forehead and supporting a small jar on the verso. Size: 2.625" W x 5.875" H (6.7 cm x 14.9 cm); 6.125" H (15.6 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Repairs to right arm and leg, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Left arm and hand restored. Minor abrasions and nicks to legs, body, arms, and head, with softening to some finer details, small areas of fire-darkening, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
