Description:

George Wilson (Native American, Yurok, 20th century); ca. 20th to 21st century CE. A square-framed drum constructed from Port Orford cedar and stretched deer hide, crafted by master Yurok carver George Wilson. Wilson, a noted maker and cultural bearer, studied traditional techniques under the mentorship of the late William "Bunny" Van Pelt. The drum produces a deep, resonant tone when struck, and is accompanied by a custom-made mallet with a twisted wooden handle wrapped in leather, capped with a firm foam ball under white cloth. A beautiful and culturally significant instrument rooted in Northern California's Native traditions.. Size: 14.75" L x 4" W x 14.75" H (37.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 37.5 cm)
