Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Tuba, Navajo (Dine), ca. 1900s to 1930s CE. A handwoven rug made from natural wool colors in gray, white, and black- the warp and weft both appear to be wool. The double diamond motif that symbolizes lightening. In Dine weaving tradition the deity, Spider Woman, taught the ancestral people to weave using a fantastical loom and materials made from the earth, lightning, and sky. Cotton was their main material for hundreds of years before the Spaniards' introduction of sheep. Size: 68" L x 33" W (172.7 cm x 83.8 cm)
