Description:

France & United States, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of gilt-bronze and brass carriage clocks, each with enamel faces, beveled glass panels and hinged top handles. The larger example follows a restrained French style, with a bronze-toned brass case, viewing window beneath the handle, and movement marked with both "A/R" (Avance/Retard) and "F/S" (Fast/Slow), with no visible maker's mark. The smaller clock is by the Waterbury Clock Co., finished in a light gold wash, with scrolling floral feet, an alarm function that still chimes when activated, and patent dates to January 13, 1891 on the exterior door. Both may not be in working order, but retain a refined presence well suited for display. Size of largest: 2.2" L x 2.5" W x 4.3" H (5.6 cm x 6.4 cm x 10.9 cm); gold quality: 1%
