Description:

Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Aleut / Yupik / Inuit cultures, ca. 19th century CE. A toggling harpoon head carved from walrus ivory and fitted with an iron blade. The ivory body, with its classic toggling form and drilled hafting holes, displays a weathered, pitted surface and a warm patina from centuries of age and use. The iron blade, likely acquired through European trade in the 19th century, was inset into the ivory, perhaps replacing a stone blade. Size: 4.6" L x 0.8" W (11.7 cm x 2 cm)
