Description:

Egypt, amarna period, ca. 1353 - 1336 BCE. Egypt, Amarna Period, ca. 1353–1336 BCE. A captivating group of glazed faience amulets in a rich variety of colors, forms, and types, reflecting the remarkable artisanal output of the Amarna workshops. The collection encompasses sixty-two individual pieces, including approximately twenty-seven pomegranate and fruit-form amulets, eleven bell flower amulets, twelve figural and animal amulets, two Djed columns, two winged hearts, four fish amulets, and miscellaneous additional types.

Faience, with its brilliant glaze and luminous color, was considered a magical material in ancient Egypt, associated with fertility, rebirth, and divine protection. The Amarna Period produced some of the most inventive and naturalistic faience work in Egyptian history, reflecting the artistic revolution initiated under Akhenaten.

A rare and visually striking collection. Size: Approx. 0.5” (1.3cm) to 1.375”L (3.5cm).

Provenance: Private Connecticut collection, ex. Carl Tautenhahn collection, Houston, 1970’s.
