J. Frank (American, XX-XXI). Angels and Stars. Paint on wood board, 1999. Signed and dated at lower right. A whimsical and heartfelt celebration of celestial motion, this 1999 folk painting by American artist J. Frank captures four stylized angels in flight across a rustic wooden panel. Each figure - rendered in bold, solid hues of olive green, lemon yellow, scarlet red, and cool silver - soars horizontally across a rich brown ground, their faceless forms defined by simple curves and trailing robes. White five-pointed stars float between the figures, evoking a night sky filled with light and wonder.
