Bactrian, Central Asia. Mid to Late 3rd millennium B.C. Fine and elegant carved deep gray chlorite stone lidded vessel having simple knob finial, standing on a wide disc pedestal foot. Overall incised fine line geometric linear, stylized floral decoration. Scattered areas of light surface deposits and encrustation. Lid repaired from two original pieces and a few very minor rim flakes, otherwise intact. An exceptional example. Size: 3-1/2"H. x 2-3/4"W.
Provenance: Private Connecticut collection, acquired from acquired from Henry Anavian, NYC., 1975. Ex. collection of Yegotiel Saidnian, by descent from grandfather who emigrated from Iran to Jerusalem in 1940.
